Comment by m. stanton on July 10, 2008 at 9:52pm: JT... in the past, i've started with either random photos of my own or public domain imagery for things that will be published on a website or album cover. but for show flyers, anything goes, as rarely do we need to worry about copyright law when you're stapling paper to a telephone pole. the google image search is simply unmatchable...

as far as how to turn that image or photo into a flyer or banner... it's tough to beat Photoshop. on the cheap, Photoshop Elements is easily powerful enough to do what you want. (the program'll run about $80) but there are plenty of free editing packages out there like "Seashore" (for Mac only, i believe) and i've pretty good luck with it. if you're using a PC, the MS Image Editor should already be installed and can handle the basics like image correction, colorization, and text additions.
